IELTS Society and Inequality

Hands holding two puzzle pieces that say “Stand Up” and “Speak Out,” symbolising IELTS Society and Inequality themes of fairness and justice.

IELTS Society and Inequality

In 2025, one of the most important themes in IELTS is IELTS Society and Inequality. These questions appear across Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening, because fairness, opportunity, and social problems are issues that affect everyone. For Thai students, this theme feels especially relevant. Many have told us that when practising IELTS Society and Inequality topics, they think about issues they see in daily life: differences between city and rural schools, unequal chances in education, or the gap between rich and poor. In our IELTS Exam Mastery Holiday Course this October, you’ll practise this theme directly, learning how to plan essays, speak with confidence, and build the vocabulary you need for a high band score.

Writing: Essays About Fairness

In Writing Task 2, you may be asked to discuss how societies should handle wealth, fairness, or opportunities. For example:

  • Should governments do more to reduce income inequality?

  • Is it better to solve poverty by helping individuals, or by changing laws?

  • Does technology make IELTS Society and Inequality issues worse or easier to solve?

For Thai students, these questions can feel close to home. Many share examples about rural healthcare compared with Bangkok, or how young people in small towns may not have the same opportunities as those in bigger cities. To succeed, you need to brainstorm both advantages and disadvantages. Governments reducing inequality can create peace and security, but heavy taxes might also discourage business. In the October course, you’ll practise outlining your ideas quickly and writing essays that balance both sides before giving a clear opinion.

Vocabulary for IELTS Society and Inequality

Strong vocabulary makes your answers convincing. Here are words and phrases you will practise in class:

  • Social mobility – when people can move from poor backgrounds to successful lives.

  • Income inequality – when some earn much more than others.

  • Equal opportunity – when everyone has the same chance.

  • Discrimination – unfair treatment of people.

  • Quality of life – health, housing, safety, and leisure in daily life.

Many Thai students say they find it easier to write about IELTS Society and Inequality when they have these words ready. For example:

  • “Income inequality is a key part of IELTS Society and Inequality topics, as it shows how unfair systems affect education.”

  • “Equal opportunity is vital, and I often mention it when practising IELTS Society and Inequality essays.”

Speaking: Real-Life Opinions

In Speaking Parts 2 and 3, the examiner may ask:

  • Describe something unfair you noticed in society.

  • Do you think rich countries should help poorer ones?

  • How can education reduce inequality?

Here, the topic of IELTS Society and Inequality becomes personal. Thai students often mention the cost of education, differences between government and private schools, or the way big cities have more opportunities than rural areas. Instead of saying “There is poverty,” you can say “IELTS Society and Inequality questions often show how poverty limits education opportunities.” Practising with teachers gives you confidence and natural fluency.

Reading and Listening

You will also meet IELTS Society and Inequality in Reading and Listening texts. These could include:

  • Articles about poverty and development.

  • Reports on gender equality or workplace fairness.

  • Lectures about government policies and education.

For Thai learners, this is often where timing is the biggest challenge. You may understand the ideas, but reading fast or listening for details can feel difficult. In the October course, you’ll practise with passages about social change, learning to find key facts quickly under exam pressure.

Why It Matters

IELTS Society and Inequality is not only a common exam theme, it is also a real issue. Thai students often tell us it makes them think about fairness in their own country: who has chances, and who does not. It asks you to look at the world around you, but also to use English to explain your ideas clearly. Examiners reward answers that are balanced, logical, and well supported. By practising this theme in the IELTS Exam Mastery Holiday Course, you will learn to build essays, speak confidently, and use strong vocabulary that shows both knowledge and clear English.
